About Copper Reflections

Copper Reflections handmade jewelry business started in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1985 by me, Tony Hisir and my brother. We started making jewelry from copper and brass using simple tools. Sold our first handmade earrings and bracelets creations at a street stand in Gastown, the historic part of Vancouver. And then, we started participating in arts and crafts shows in British Columbia and Alberta. At the beginning, the jewelry that we were creating by using a simple technique of shaping and texturing metals by hammering and embossing. After we moved to Ontario, and continue working on our craft. It was in Ontario that we started developing our own new techniques which made our jewelry unique to us.

We came up with a special tool that produce an engraving effect that was very unusual. This engraving technique made Copper Reflections jewelry very distinctive. The company started adding to wholesale gift shows in Canada and the United States in early 1990's. By the inspiration from wildlife, animal, Native Canadian and American,  we started to make jewelry in many any designs including cat, butterfly, horse, wolf, dragonfly, eagle and many more. Jim Straight from Missouri also taught us how to do bright cut / diamond cut. When we joined our engraving technique with the diamond cut our jewelry looked more luxurious. We started sell throughout Canada and the United States mostly to the gift stores and handmade galleries in tourist areas. The newest technique that the developed enable us to make colorful designs. Copper Reflections is now collaborating with the renowned American artists including Lynn Bean, Jo Lynch, Bob Coonts, and Nick Gustafson to create even more wider range of handmade jewelry designs.

Our Process Making Jewelry

We have been working on our jewelry since 1985. We have created the techniques and the designs ourselves over the years. We have participated in many craft shows in Canada and the US, and we believe that we are the only ones making this type of art jewelry.

We go through 32 steps to complete each piece. Copper sheets are polished, silver plated and the designs are printed onto the silver plated surface. Then the shapes are cut out by hand using shears or cutting tools. Each piece is diamond cut by hand to make them sparkle. We form the jewelry to make them look richer.

We use surgical steel hypoallergenic ear wires for the earrings. During these steps we have to spray them with clear acrylic as part of the process. These coatings of finish also protects our wholesale handcrafted jewelry from tarnishing, so no polishing is required as long as the finishes are not scratched or they are not exposed to chemicals constantly like detergents. As our work is made in a unique technique of making copper jewelry, we could not learn from other people and we had to figure out many problems over the years by trial and error.
